Sometimes you gotta lose to gain to especially when it comes to promoting natural hair growth.
You see, hanging on to those dead ends does not only make your hair look unhealthy but can actually cause further damage as the split goes further up the hair shaft the longer it’s left.
Nipping those split ends off will stop the damage in its tracks allowing healthy hair to grow.
We always recommend you see a professional hairdresser for trimming your hair but if you can’t make it to the salon, here are our top tips for DIY Hair Trims at home.
Tools needed

Having the right tools goes a long way towards making things easier for you and getting your hair trim right.
Rattail comb
Cutting shears/scissors
Hair Clips,
Blowout cream or leave-in conditioner (for cuticle protection),
Hair oil
Water Bottle
Invest in a pair of styling shears
Out of all of those tools investing in a pair of good hair cutting shears is crucial, just using kitchen scissors or any other scissors you can get your hands on can actually cause more damage. This is because the dull edges could potentially give you even more split ends not to mention cross-contamination!
Instead, invest in a pair of razor-sharp styling shears that are made specifically for this purpose. This will give you the best-looking cut and the healthiest hair possible.

Working With your Natural Hair Texture
Considering your hair type is so important when it comes to how you trim your split ends.
If your hair texture is curly, you should cut it wet, this will help stretch hair for the trim.
Is your hair a kinky or curly texture? You will need to lightly blow your hair out to stretch, this will help you trim the right amount without taking too much off. Make sure you use a heat protectant product such as a leave-in conditioner or a blowout cream to protect strands from damage.
